Broomfield’s controversial depiction of the alleged massacre of 24 Iraqi civilians by US Marines in Haditha on 19/11/05, filmed mostly using amateur actors whose experiences are similar to those that they portray, is, despite the odd cliché and some rather didactic dialogue, a powerful (almost unbearably so), visceral, and devastatingly tragic exploration of the all too human cost of war.
